A visit to BKKBJJ – Bangkok Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club

// August 18th, 2010 // No Comments » // Outside Venture, Sports

One of the beautiful things about Bangkok is that there is something different around every corner. On this occasion the VENTURE team found themselves at the Bangkok Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Club, and we got a chance to participate in our first Jiu Jitsu class. Not only was it a grueling physical effort, but we quickly found that it was no sport for your simple dumb brute. Every movement is purposeful and strategic, with difficult technical maneuvers to match. All to often i would catch myself wearing a look of bewilderment on my face, as if i was asked to fight of bear and program the VCR at the same time. Unlike any martial art I’ve ever taken before, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is something you really have to jump in with both feet, and literally get elbow deep in the action. A real challenging experience.

sankhlaburiPano Rickity Bridge
It’s barely been over a week since I’ve been back from Sangkhlaburi and already it feels like a whole life-time away. Kevin and I went on a 7 hour – up/down, left/right, swaying trip to the Thai / Burmese border in order to film a mini-documentary about The Children of the Forest. It opened my eyes in many different ways to say the least.

Even though the whole trip was beyond surreal (from the poverty, the monsoon, the conditions) there were parts that stuck out even more, such as the image of the man that got nailed by the car on the highway there, or when the Mon villagers ran to check on the farmer that got struck by lightning or something as simple as a adorable little girl that was abandoned by her parents at such a young age.

We’re baaack….

Been a while since an update. Gonna have to kick the boys’ asses for not keeping up to speed on the internet machine.
Actually tom and I were off to Sanklaburi in Western Thailand, filming a documentary on the refugee area around the border. we should have a first cut of that at the end of the month so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Tom took a whole load of pics of the area and the kids being helped by Children Of The Forest NGO helping nearly 1200 people in the area with education and medical programs for the needy. Great job they’re doing.

Tom should be posting a couple of things in the next few days.
Anan is also busy hosting a giant group of Traceurs visiting Thailand. Gonna head out next week and film some of that stuff for you guys to check out.

Also, I believe we will be visiting a local Jiu Jitsu club next week to get some pointers from them. Should be quite funny for the cameraman(me) to see the boys in action.

Anyways, that’s about it from my end.
Stay tuned for more…

Friendly Neighbourhood Dude

// June 19th, 2010 // No Comments » // Outside Venture, Sports

The other week I brought Tom out to my neighborhood so he could get some shots of me doing what i do. Our fabulous director was nice enough to whip together a quick edit so you could all see a bit more of what we did that morning.
It was looking to be a rainy day but with a bit of luck and lots of wishful thinking we manage to sneak in a quick play and get away with a few nice shots on Tom camera.
It’s almost certain that tom and I will be bringing lots more of our different skills to the show, and hopefully you’ll enjoy seeing us bring our love of photos and movement on other ventures round Thailand.

Was going through my city Bird-Cam footage yesterday (As I’m an avid urban bird watcher in my free time – watch your words ; P) and I came across this footage that my motion detector caught. Please have a look and let us know if you’ve ever seen something  like this, contact us @ http://twitter.com/ventureshowasia
